NLO Suspends HBR FC Coach Sanusi Kwayo Over Hooliganism Allegations
The Nationwide League One (NLO) has slammed a suspension on HBR FC of Kano head coach, Sanusi Kwayo, ruling him out of the 2025 season following allegations of hooliganism.
According to the NLO, Kwayo’s conduct during his side’s Matchday Two clash against Wudil FC at the Danbatta Centre breached the league’s strict code of conduct and disciplinary regulations.
In a statement issued through the Kano State Football Association on Tuesday, NLO Chief Operating Officer, Olusola Ogunnowo, confirmed that the suspension takes effect immediately and will stand pending further disciplinary proceedings.
The league further reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline, professionalism, and fair play in Nigerian football, stressing that misconduct from any stakeholder will not be tolerated.
Opinion:
While the full details of the incident are yet to unfold, this suspension sends a clear message—Nigeria’s lower leagues are no longer willing to sweep misconduct under the carpet. The NLO, often seen as the grassroots engine room of Nigerian football, is showing that professionalism must begin from the bottom up.
For coaches, who serve as both tacticians and role models, this should be a wake-up call. The passion for the game must never spill over into actions that tarnish the sport’s image or intimidate others on and off the pitch. If Nigerian football is to truly rise, discipline must be the constant, not the exception.
After all, the game is not just about winning matches—it’s also about winning respect.
