Tacha Demands $10 Million Compensation for Phyna’s Sister After Dangote Truck Accident
Reality TV star Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has called for heavy compensation from the Dangote Group following a devastating accident involving one of its trucks and Ruth, the sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna.
The tragic incident left Ruth with the loss of one leg — a life-altering injury that has stirred public outrage. In an Instagram post, Tacha urged the Dangote Group to take full responsibility for what she described as the “recklessness” of their drivers.
“It’s high time the Dangote Group starts paying heavily for the recklessness of their drivers. They ought to pay $10 million in compensation to Ruth even though it won’t bring back her leg,” Tacha wrote.
The call has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing personal stories and grievances about road safety and truck accidents. Some demanded stricter regulations, such as limiting truck movements to night hours, while others lamented the perceived lack of accountability for deadly accidents involving big transport companies.
One commenter shared, “A whole family was killed by one of their trucks last month in Gombe State. This one only went viral because of Phyna.” Another recounted being chased by a Dangote truck driver in 2015, an incident that left them traumatized.
Opinion:
This tragedy isn’t just about Ruth — it’s a painful reminder of how fragile road safety is in Nigeria and how quickly lives can change because of negligence. For years, citizens have complained about reckless truck driving, but little seems to change. The fact that many believe this case is gaining attention only because it involves a celebrity’s family shows a troubling truth: countless victims without fame or influence suffer in silence.
If companies as large as Dangote fail to enforce strict driver discipline and road safety measures, accidents like this will keep shattering lives. Heavy compensation may not restore what is lost, but it could send a strong message — recklessness on our roads must come at a price.
