Tiwa Savage Shares How Sliding Into Skepta’s DM Sparked Their Hit Collaboration

Tiwa Savage Shares How Sliding Into Skepta’s DM Sparked Their Hit Collaboration

Nigerian music sensation Tiwa Savage has revealed the story behind her latest collaboration with British-Nigerian rapper Skepta on her new single, “On The Low.”

Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio 1, Tiwa explained that the collaboration happened quite naturally after she reached out to Skepta on Instagram.

“So, ladies, I want to say that it does work sometimes when you slide into that DM. But I did slide into the DM and I was like, hey, big smoke. I didn’t really tell him up front what I wanted. Kind of was just like, I’m in London. What you doing? He’s like, yo, I’m in the studio. I’m like, oh, cool. So I went over and played him the record, and he loved it.”

She added that Skepta’s quick response and excitement about the project made the collaboration effortless. Beyond the music, Tiwa expressed her joy in shooting the visuals, encouraging fans to check it out.

The single, released on July 30, 2025, has already been met with massive love across Nigeria and the UK, further solidifying Tiwa’s reputation as a global music icon.

Opinion

Tiwa Savage’s story is a refreshing reminder that sometimes opportunities come from taking bold, simple steps. In an industry where deals often happen through managers, contracts, and endless negotiations, her decision to casually slide into Skepta’s DM shows the power of authenticity and courage.

There’s also a bigger lesson here: collaborations don’t always need to be over-planned. When creativity flows naturally, the result often resonates more with fans. Tiwa and Skepta’s chemistry is proof of that, and the warm reception of “On The Low” shows how audiences can feel when music is born out of genuine vibes rather than forced arrangements.

Beyond the music, Tiwa’s openness also speaks to the evolution of African artists—fearlessly reaching across borders, blending cultures, and shaping the sound of global pop. It’s not just a Nigerian or UK hit; it’s another sign that Afro-fusion is here to stay.

At the end of the day, Tiwa’s move is a subtle encouragement to everyone—sometimes, the magic starts with just one bold message.
