Nigerian Man Applauds Edo Police Officers Who Came to His Rescue After Tyre Burst

Nigerian Man Applauds Edo Police Officers Who Came to His Rescue After Tyre Burst

A Nigerian traveler, Peter Mbuba, has taken to social media to commend police officers in Edo State who came to his aid after a frightening incident along the expressway.

Mbuba, who was returning from the East on Sunday, August 24, 2025, said his car suffered a burst tyre near Okada community in Edo State, a location he described as “dangerous and lonely.”

In his account, Mbuba explained that while he struggled to fix the tyre with a faulty jack, a police patrol van suddenly pulled up. Led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP John Obatoyinbo, the officers not only provided their own jack but also assisted him in changing the tyre. More remarkably, they stayed by his side until he was safely back on the road.

Mbuba wrote:

“The most shocking aspect was that they refused to take the money I offered them in appreciation. The men of Okada Division in Edo State are a rare bunch of policemen. CSP John Obatoyinbo, who led this team, was so humble and kind. They showed me today that we still have decent and noble policemen in Nigeria.”

Opinion: A Glimpse of the Police Nigerians Deserve

In a country where stories of police misconduct often dominate headlines—ranging from bribery at checkpoints to reports of brutality—this heartwarming encounter offers a refreshing glimpse of the police Nigerians deserve.

CSP Obatoyinbo and his team demonstrated that policing is not just about enforcing laws, but about service, humanity, and community protection. Their refusal to accept money highlights integrity, a virtue many citizens believe is missing in the system.

Such stories may be rare, but they are powerful reminders that there are still noble officers within the Nigerian Police Force—men and women who wear the uniform with dignity and understand the weight of their responsibility to protect lives.

Perhaps, if more acts like this are celebrated and encouraged, it could spark a cultural shift within the police force, inspiring others to live up to the true calling of service.

For Nigerians weary of negative encounters, this story is not just about a changed tyre—it is about renewed hope that kindness, honesty, and professionalism can still be found in uniform.
