CHAN 2024: Morocco Crowned Champions as Individual Awards Recognize Standout Performers
The curtains have fallen on the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after Morocco edged Madagascar 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Moi International Sports Centre on Saturday evening.
The Atlas Lions sealed the title thanks to goals from Youssef Mehri and a brace from Oussama Lamlaoui, while Madagascar pushed them all the way through strikes from C. F. Manohantsoa and T. N. Rakotondraibe.
Following the final, CAF announced the standout individual and team award winners of the tournament:
Best Goalkeeper Award: Marc Diouf
Fair Play Trophy: Senegal
Top Scorer Award: Oussama Lamlaoui (Morocco) – 6 goals
Man of the Competition: Mohamed Hrimat
Opinion:
While Morocco’s team performance rightly secured them their third CHAN title in eight years, the individual awards highlight the depth of quality across the tournament. Oussama Lamlaoui’s six goals not only fired his nation to glory but also showcased his knack for decisive contributions on the big stage. Mohamed Hrimat’s recognition as Man of the Competition is equally fitting — a midfield engine whose consistency underpinned Morocco’s run to the trophy.
The Fair Play Trophy going to Senegal is also a reminder that football isn’t just about results, but about discipline, respect, and the spirit of the game. And Marc Diouf’s award as Best Goalkeeper is a nod to the unsung heroes between the sticks who often decide games just as much as strikers do.
CHAN 2024 will be remembered not just for Morocco’s dominance but for the stories of resilience, flair, and rising stars it brought to the fore. It’s proof yet again that African football is rich with talent waiting to shine on the biggest stages.
