Troost-Ekong, Onyemaechi, Obasogie Lead Early Arrivals as Super Eagles Camp Opens in Uyo

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, defender Bruno Onyemaechi, and goalkeeper Amas Obasogie are the first players to arrive at the national team camp in Uyo ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The trio checked into the team’s base at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Monday morning, with Troost-Ekong and Obasogie arriving together before Onyemaechi later joined them.

More players are expected to troop into camp before nightfall, as head coach Eric Chelle has invited 23 players for the back-to-back qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will hold their first official training session on Tuesday at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Opinion: Early Birds Set the Tone

The early arrival of Troost-Ekong, Onyemaechi, and Obasogie sends the right signal — commitment, focus, and seriousness. These World Cup qualifiers are not just another set of fixtures; they are make-or-break games that could define Nigeria’s path to the 2026 Mundial.

Troost-Ekong, as captain, setting the pace is exactly the kind of leadership Nigerians want to see. For Obasogie, being among the first in camp shows hunger to stake his claim in goal, especially at a time when the team needs consistency in that department. Onyemaechi’s presence also highlights the younger generation’s readiness to step up.

In truth, fans have been worried about late arrivals and complacency in the past, but this is a refreshing change. If the rest of the squad follows this example, the Super Eagles will head into these qualifiers not just with talent, but with the discipline and unity needed to secure victory.

Because when it comes to the World Cup, Nigeria cannot afford to play catch-up — not on the pitch, and certainly not in camp.
