Boxing World Mourns as Ricky Hatton Passes Away at 46

Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton, fondly known as “The Hitman”, has died at the age of 46.

Hatton was found at his home in Greater Manchester on Sunday morning. Police confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:

“Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45 am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man. There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Just weeks ago, Hatton had made headlines by announcing a shock comeback to the ring, reigniting excitement among fans who adored his fearless, high-pressure fighting style.

During his illustrious career, Hatton captured multiple world and UK titles between 1997 and 2012, cementing himself as one of Britain’s most beloved boxing figures. Beyond the belts, he was celebrated for his blue-collar charisma, down-to-earth personality, and his ability to unite fans from Manchester and beyond.

He is survived by his children—Campbell, Millie, and Fearne—as well as his granddaughter, Lyla.

Opinion: More Than a Fighter, Hatton Was the People’s Champion

Ricky Hatton wasn’t just a world champion—he was a working-class hero. For many, he embodied grit, determination, and a refusal to back down, both inside and outside the ring. His loyal following would fill arenas and even fly across continents, famously turning Las Vegas into “Little Manchester” during his fights.

What made Hatton truly special was his humility. Despite his fame, he never lost his touch with everyday people. He was approachable, funny, and honest about his struggles—a rare quality in a sport often defined by bravado.

His sudden death is heartbreaking, especially as he was gearing up for a comeback, a sign of his undying love for the sport. Hatton’s story is a reminder that heroes are not just remembered for the titles they win, but for the hearts they touch along the way.

The boxing world has lost a warrior, but the fans have lost a friend.

Rest in peace, Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton. 🥊💙
