Erigga Warns Parents Against Defending Children’s Misbehavior
Nigerian rapper, Erigga, has sparked conversations online after sending a strong message to parents about the dangers of overlooking their children’s misconduct.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Warri-born rapper warned that parents who constantly defend their children’s wrong actions may one day have to defend them in court.
He wrote:
“If you defend your children misbehavior, one day you will hire a lawyer to defend their crimes. Discipline is not child abuse.”
Opinion: Tough Love That Speaks Volumes
Erigga’s words may sound blunt, but they carry timeless wisdom. In today’s world where many parents confuse love with indulgence, his message is a reminder that discipline is not cruelty—it is an act of love. Shielding children from correction does not protect them; it often prepares them for greater consequences in life.
Society today already struggles with rising cases of youth involvement in crime, cultism, and internet fraud. Much of this could be curbed if discipline at home was taken more seriously. Parents are the first moral compass, and turning a blind eye to misbehavior can be costly—not just to the child, but to society at large.
Erigga’s stance is not just a rapper’s hot take—it’s a wake-up call. Discipline, when done with love and wisdom, builds character. And perhaps the biggest gift a parent can give their child is the courage to say no when it matters most.
