Portable Sparks Outrage After Declaring He Will Sell His Vote in 2027 Election

Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has once again set tongues wagging after declaring openly that he would sell his vote to the highest bidder in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

In a video shared online, the Zazoo Zeh crooner asked his fans if they had collected their voter’s cards before boldly stating that “anybody wey give me money na who I go follow.”

He further explained in Yoruba that whether it was the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or Labour Party’s Peter Obi, he would endorse whoever pays him first.

“Vote for anybody wey you like, vote for your helper, vote for who give you money,” Portable concluded, stressing that he cannot support anyone while going hungry.

His statement, however, has sparked massive backlash on social media, with many Nigerians reminding him that as a public figure with significant influence, he should be more responsible with his words and actions.

Opinion: A Dangerous Joke or a Reflection of Reality?

Portable’s declaration is not just controversial; it is dangerous. While some may dismiss it as another one of his antics, the message it carries is deeply troubling, especially in a country where vote-buying has remained a cancer in the democratic process.

By equating leadership choice to the highest bidder, Portable inadvertently normalizes a culture that has robbed Nigerians of good governance for decades. The irony is that while politicians enrich themselves through corruption, the same citizens who sell their votes for quick cash continue to suffer the consequences — poor infrastructure, insecurity, and lack of opportunities.

Yes, hunger is real. Yes, the struggle is tough. But selling one’s vote is selling one’s future. For an artist with such a wide audience, especially among the youth, Portable has a duty to inspire responsibility, not recklessness.

The backlash shows that Nigerians are tired of this narrative. Democracy only thrives when votes are cast based on vision, competence, and integrity — not stomach infrastructure. Portable’s voice is loud, but perhaps it is time he uses it to empower rather than mislead.
