Manchester United Handed Double Boost Ahead of Chelsea Clash as Mount and Cunha Return

Manchester United Handed Double Boost Ahead of Chelsea Clash as Mount and Cunha Return

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha will be available for selection when the Red Devils host Chelsea at Old Trafford this Saturday.

Both players picked up injuries during United’s 3-2 win over Burnley before the international break and subsequently missed last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City. Their return comes at a crucial time for Amorim’s side, who have managed just one Premier League victory this season.

Speaking to the press, Amorim said:

“Dalot is out, Mason is in the squad, Cunha is in the squad, Licha is still out.”

Defender Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee problem, while Diogo Dalot also misses out. Left-back Tyrell Malacia is currently training with the Under-21s after failing to secure a move away during the summer transfer window.

Opinion: United’s Revival Hinges on These Returns

For United fans, the return of Mount and Cunha is more than just good news — it’s a lifeline. Both players add much-needed creativity and energy to a side that has looked disjointed and toothless in recent games. Cunha’s directness and Mount’s ability to link midfield with attack could help balance Amorim’s system, especially against a Chelsea side that thrives on high pressing and exploiting spaces.

Still, there’s a bigger question: will their return be enough to spark a turnaround? United’s problems go beyond missing players — defensive frailties, inconsistency in attack, and a lack of confidence have haunted them. Saturday’s clash against Chelsea won’t just be another fixture; it’s a test of whether Amorim can galvanize his squad and prove they can rise above early-season struggles.

For now, at least, the return of Mount and Cunha offers a glimmer of hope. And at Old Trafford, hope is often the first step to momentum.
