Manchester United Hit by Injury Woes as Cunha, Sesko, Maguire Ruled Out for Crystal Palace Clash

Manchester United Hit by Injury Woes as Cunha, Sesko, Maguire Ruled Out for Crystal Palace Clash

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will be without key forward Matheus Cunha for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace, adding to the mounting injury concerns at Old Trafford.

Cunha was absent during United’s disappointing 1–0 defeat to Everton on Monday night and has not recovered in time to feature this weekend. Amorim, however, remains hopeful that the Brazilian could return in time for next Thursday’s clash against West Ham.

The injury list doesn’t stop there. The United boss also confirmed that Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire will require more time before joining full training again.

“Sesko is going to take more time, Harry the same,” Amorim said during Friday’s press briefing.
“Cunha I am expecting for the next one, not this one. No setback for Sesko. We are taking care of the injury.”

With crucial fixtures ahead and a squad already stretched thin, United will now navigate a tough test at Selhurst Park without three important players.

Opinion: United’s Injury Struggles Raise Bigger Questions Ahead of Palace Test

There’s no denying it—Manchester United’s season already feels like a tightrope walk, and these fresh injury setbacks only make the rope thinner.

Matheus Cunha’s absence removes a significant attacking spark. His energy, movement, and creativity have been vital in United’s forward transitions. Without him, the team often looks predictable, lacking the flair needed to unlock stubborn defences like Crystal Palace’s.

Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire being sidelined also raises alarms. Sesko, when fit, offers a different dynamic upfront—height, power, and directness—while Maguire’s experience and aerial presence cannot be dismissed, especially in a fixture where Palace thrive on set pieces and physical battles.

But beyond the immediate concerns, the growing injury list highlights a deeper issue: squad depth and conditioning. Amorim’s system relies on intensity and fluid movement, but without consistent availability of key players, United risk losing momentum at crucial stages.

Still, the silver lining is that this could be a test of character. Matches like these often determine whether a team can grind out results under pressure. If United’s fringe players step up, it might strengthen the squad’s resilience moving forward. If not, the gap between where United are and where they want to be will continue to widen.

For now, all eyes are on Selhurst Park—a venue where United cannot afford another slip.
