Lola Idije Opens Up on Struggles of Single Parenting, Warns Women to “Trust No One”

Lola Idije Opens Up on Struggles of Single Parenting, Warns Women to “Trust No One”

Veteran Yoruba actress, Lola Idije, has shared her candid thoughts on the struggles of single parenting, drawing from her own personal experiences.

In a recent interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, the Nollywood star revealed that raising children alone is far from easy. Speaking in Yoruba, she explained that the journey is filled with endless challenges, particularly when there is no partner’s support.

According to her, single mothers often bear heavy responsibilities — from paying school fees to providing daily upkeep — with little or no help from others. She lamented that even when relatives or friends promise assistance, many end up disappointing.

Lola Idije also touched on her experience with men, describing many as unserious. She said some only approach women to fulfill bets with their friends, while others disrespect actresses by assuming they can “buy” their affection with as little as ₦500,000.

The actress advised women to be cautious with trust, stressing that “trust no one” should be a guiding principle, especially in a world where those who can help often choose to “flex” instead of supporting struggling single parents.

Despite the hardships, she praised the resilience of many women who continue to push forward for the sake of their children.

Opinion: Lola Idije’s Truth Is Every Single Mother’s Reality

Lola Idije’s words cut deep because they reflect the reality of millions of women in Nigeria and beyond. Single parenting is often romanticized in films or dismissed with stereotypes, but in truth, it is a road paved with silent sacrifices.

Her revelation about broken promises of help and the societal disrespect actresses face highlights a bigger problem: how society often fails women when they need it most. In a culture that celebrates motherhood, it is ironic that so many mothers are left to struggle alone.

What stands out most is her message of resilience. Despite being weighed down by school fees, daily bills, and the emotional toll of raising children solo, many women still find the strength to push on. That strength deserves not just admiration but genuine support — from family, friends, and a society that too often turns a blind eye.

Perhaps the lesson here is twofold: for women, to heed Lola Idije’s warning about misplaced trust; and for society, to reflect on how much more it can do to ease the burden of single mothers who are raising the next generation.
