Lookman, Dessers Boost Super Eagles Camp Ahead of Rwanda Clash
Ademola Lookman and Cyriel Dessers have joined the Super Eagles camp in Uyo as preparations intensify for Saturday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, according to TalkTalk Nigeria.
Their arrival brings the number of players in camp to 17, with six more still expected at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene.
Key names such as Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray striker), Tolu Arokodare, Christantus Uche, and Raphael Onyedika are yet to report but are expected to link up with the squad before matchday.
The team kicked off training on Tuesday and will hold another session tonight at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, under the watchful eyes of the coaching crew as they sharpen strategies to outwit Eric Chelle’s Rwanda.
Opinion: A Strong Camp, but Focus Must Match Talent
The arrival of Lookman and Dessers is a timely boost for the Super Eagles. Lookman, fresh off a fantastic season in Serie A, brings creativity and finishing power, while Dessers offers depth and a different attacking dimension. Their presence ensures Nigeria has options beyond the much-anticipated return of Osimhen.
However, talent alone does not win qualifiers — discipline, tactical execution, and mentality do. Rwanda may not have Nigeria’s star names, but in World Cup qualifiers, smaller teams often play with grit, organization, and the desire to cause an upset. The Eagles must guard against complacency.
It is also reassuring that the camp atmosphere is building up smoothly in Uyo. The players have been criticized in recent times for late arrivals and lack of cohesion before big games. This time, however, the earlier the full squad settles, the quicker they can bond, perfect combinations, and build momentum.
With the quality at Nigeria’s disposal, anything less than victory will be unacceptable. The Super Eagles not only need to win but also make a statement — that this new phase under fresh management is about dominance, not excuses.
