Alex Iwobi Hails Felix Agu, Benjamin Fredrick Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Alex Iwobi Hails Felix Agu, Benjamin Fredrick Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed admiration for the talents of Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredrick as Nigeria prepares for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

Speaking after a light training session with the squad, the Fulham star said he was impressed with the duo’s quality and welcomed them warmly into the team.

“We had a light training session, and I got to see their [Fredrick and Agu] qualities. The manager knows, but there is a reason why they are here to represent Nigeria,” Iwobi told Football Fans Tribe.

“My job is to make Fredrick and Agu feel welcome and at home, give them the confidence to come and showcase their talent [for the Super Eagles].”

Iwobi, a senior figure in the Super Eagles setup, also stressed the importance of creating a positive atmosphere for new entrants into the national team camp.

Both Fredrick and Agu will be hoping to make their mark as Eric Chelle’s side look to secure six vital points that could determine Nigeria’s path to the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Opinion: Nigeria’s Future Lies in Blending Youth and Experience

Iwobi’s comments reflect a refreshing sense of leadership and responsibility. Beyond his skills on the pitch, he is embracing the role of a bridge between Nigeria’s experienced stars and its budding talents.

For players like Benjamin Fredrick—a young defender making waves—and Felix Agu, who brings versatility and energy, encouragement from a player of Iwobi’s stature can be a game-changer. Confidence is often the missing piece for new players stepping onto the international stage.

What makes this moment special is that Nigeria is at a crossroads: the Super Eagles need to build a squad not just for today’s qualifiers but also for tomorrow’s tournaments. With veterans like Iwobi extending a hand of mentorship, and youngsters eager to prove themselves, the balance looks promising.

If nurtured properly, this blend of youth and experience could become Nigeria’s greatest strength—not just in qualifying for the World Cup, but in making a real impact when the tournament comes around.
