Peter Obi Praises Super Eagles After AFCON Bronze Medal Triumph

Peter Obi Praises Super Eagles After AFCON Bronze Medal Triumph

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has applauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria following their victory over Egypt in the third-place playoff at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, Obi expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance at the tournament, noting that they displayed resilience, discipline and national pride from start to finish.

Commending the players for their fighting spirit, Obi urged the team to return home with their heads held high, describing them as true victors despite narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

“Thank you for representing the Nigerian people. You fought with character, represented Nigeria with honour, and reminded us that progress is built through perseverance.

“The nation is proud of you. May this result be a strong foundation for even greater victories ahead.

“Come home as the victors that you are, and continue to soar high our dearest Super Eagles,” he wrote.

Opinion: More Than a Bronze Medal

Peter Obi’s message captures how Nigerians truly feel about this Super Eagles side. While the bronze medal may not have been the ultimate dream, the journey itself restored belief, unity, and pride among fans across the country. The team showed grit in difficult moments, bounced back from disappointment, and ended the tournament on a high note against a seven-time African champion.

In a country often craving positive stories, the Super Eagles once again reminded Nigerians of the power of perseverance and teamwork. If this performance becomes the foundation for future rebuilding, then this AFCON campaign may well be remembered as the start of something greater rather than a missed opportunity.
