Arteta Praises Maresca After Chelsea Sack Manager
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has paid tribute to Enzo Maresca following Chelsea’s decision to part ways with the Italian coach on January 1.
Speaking about the development, Arteta described Maresca as both an excellent professional and a quality individual, insisting the former Chelsea boss did a commendable job during his time at Stamford Bridge.
“I really like Enzo as a person and professional. He did a terrific job at Chelsea. That’s the decision that has been made, and I wish him all the best,” Arteta said.
Maresca leaves Chelsea after a mixed spell that included notable successes. He guided the Blues to the Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles last season, achievements that suggested progress under his leadership. However, Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League this campaign proved costly, with the club currently sitting 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Opinion: Arteta’s comments reflect a growing reality in modern football—success is no longer measured by trophies alone, but by consistency and league performance. While Maresca delivered silverware, Chelsea’s domestic struggles overshadowed those achievements. His sacking raises familiar questions about patience and long-term planning at the club, especially in contrast to Arsenal’s stability under Arteta. In another environment, Maresca’s résumé might have earned him more time, but at Chelsea, results and pressure move faster than process.
