Palace Controversy: Jarvis Begs Oba of Benin for Forgiveness Over Peller Incident

Palace Controversy: Jarvis Begs Oba of Benin for Forgiveness Over Peller Incident

Social media personality Jarvis, whose real name is Amodu Elizabeth Aminata, has publicly appealed to the Oba of Benin Ewuare II for forgiveness following the controversy surrounding her partner, Peller.

The incident stems from an unauthorised visit to the Benin Royal Palace, which drew backlash and prompted action from the Benin Traditional Council. The council had earlier summoned Peller, describing the visit as a violation of palace customs and traditions.

During a live session on social media, Jarvis expressed deep regret over the situation and pleaded for mercy, stressing the potential impact on her personal life and future plans.

“I don’t want to be single to stupor… please forgive him. I want to get married; I want my bride price paid without fear. Please have mercy on us,” she said.

The fallout from the incident has already led to disciplinary actions within the palace. A chief was reportedly suspended, while other members of the royal household faced sanctions for their roles in granting unauthorised access.

Peller has also been instructed to appear before the council and submit a formal written apology as part of efforts to resolve the matter.

Opinion: Tradition, Influence, and the Cost of Ignorance

This situation highlights the delicate balance between modern social media culture and deeply rooted traditional institutions. While influencers like Jarvis and Peller operate in a fast-paced digital world where access and content creation are key, traditional institutions such as the Benin monarchy operate on centuries-old customs that demand respect and protocol.

Jarvis’ emotional plea shows an important realization—actions taken for content or influence can have real-life consequences, especially when they intersect with culture and tradition. Her concern about marriage and reputation reflects how seriously such matters are viewed in society.

At the same time, the swift response by the Benin Traditional Council sends a strong message about preserving cultural integrity. However, it also raises the need for better awareness, especially among younger public figures who may not fully understand the weight of such traditions.

In the end, this is more than just a controversy—it’s a lesson. Respect for culture should never be sacrificed for content, and influence should come with responsibility.
