Veteran Goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu Praised After Kun Khalifat FC Victory Over Bayelsa United
Kun Khalifat FC technical adviser Obinna Uzoho has lavished praise on veteran goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu following his side’s 1-0 triumph over Bayelsa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday.
Ejiogu, 41, returned to the NPFL after a three-year absence, and his performance was hailed as pivotal in securing the win. Uzoho highlighted the goalkeeper’s leadership and wealth of experience as vital assets for the Owerri-based club in their battle for league survival.
“Ejiogu is here to help with his leadership and experience in goal as we have been working with him for the past weeks. He really gave a very good account of himself in the win over Bayelsa United,” Uzoho said in an interview with Puyaka.
Opinion: Experience Matters
Ejiogu’s return demonstrates the immense value veteran players can bring to struggling sides. Beyond his shot-stopping ability, his leadership and composure offer a stabilizing influence on younger teammates—a factor often underestimated in league campaigns.
Kun Khalifat FC’s narrow win may signal that experience, even at 41, can tip tight NPFL encounters in a team’s favor. If Ejiogu maintains form, he could prove to be a game-changer in the Owerri club’s quest to avoid relegation.
