Super Eagles Deny Links Between Éric Chelle and Wydad Casablanca
Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe has dismissed reports suggesting that Éric Chelle is close to joining Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.
Moroccan TV station Le7TV had claimed that the Malian tactician was poised to replace Amine Benhachem as Wydad’s head coach. However, Efoghe described the story as false, emphasizing that Chelle remains fully committed to Nigeria.
Chelle, 48, has drawn interest from several top clubs and national teams in Africa and Europe following his success in leading the Super Eagles to third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He is under contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until January 2027.
Opinion: Stability Over Speculation
While it’s natural for a coach of Chelle’s calibre to attract attention, staying put with the Super Eagles may benefit both him and Nigerian football. Under his guidance, the team has regained tactical identity and competitiveness in Africa. A move abroad now could disrupt the momentum he’s building.
For Nigerian football fans, this clarification should be reassuring: Chelle’s focus remains on strengthening the national team rather than entertaining speculative offers. Consistency at the helm could be the key to future continental success.
