Sergio Agüero Tips Paris Saint-Germain as Champions League Favourites Ahead of Semi-Finals
Former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero has named Paris Saint-Germain as his leading contenders to win this season’s UEFA Champions League.
The competition is now down to the semi-final stage, with PSG set to face Bayern Munich in Paris on Tuesday night, while Arsenal will take on Atlético Madrid in the other semi-final first leg on Wednesday.
Despite the strength of the remaining teams, Agüero believes PSG currently stand out due to their balance, attacking threat, and tactical clarity under manager Luis Enrique.
“I think PSG are doing very well,” Agüero said. “It’s not easy to be back-to-back champions, but today both Bayern and Paris are very strong.”
He added that PSG’s style of play and squad quality make them especially dangerous at this stage of the competition.
“They have many chances. They play in the same way, they have very difficult players to stop, they are dangerous, and today they look a bit more complete,” he said.
“With Luis Enrique, they know exactly what they want and how they want to play. I think today we all think Paris have the best chance.”
Opinion: PSG’s Favourite Tag Is Earned—But Not Guaranteed
When a player like Sergio Agüero speaks about Champions League favourites, it naturally carries weight. He has played at the highest level and understands what separates good teams from champions.
On paper, his assessment of Paris Saint-Germain is understandable. Under Luis Enrique, they appear more structured, more balanced, and less reliant on individual brilliance alone. That evolution is often what turns contenders into winners.
However, football at this stage of the UEFA Champions League rarely respects predictions. Teams like Bayern Munich bring experience and knockout mentality, while Arsenal arrive with confidence and momentum.
The truth is, being “favourites” in a semi-final means very little if the details on the pitch are not executed perfectly. One mistake, one moment of brilliance, or one tactical adjustment can change everything.
So while PSG may look like the most complete side on paper, the Champions League has a long history of defying expectations. And that is exactly what makes this stage so unpredictable—and so compelling.
