Opinion: AMVCA 2026 Shows a Strong Shift Toward Story-Driven African Cinema
This year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards made one thing clear: African storytelling is becoming more ambitious, more polished, and more globally competitive.
The success of productions like My Father’s Shadow and Inimba shows that audiences are now rewarding depth, direction, and originality—not just star power.
It is also significant that veterans like Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo continue to be recognised alongside emerging talents. This balance highlights a healthy industry where experience and new creativity are both valued.
Perhaps most importantly, this edition of the AMVCA reflects a Nollywood that is no longer just growing—it is maturing.
