“Football Money Is More Stable Than Music” Skales Weighs In on Earnings Debate

Nigerian singer Skales has sparked fresh discussion online after stating that footballers generally enjoy more stable income than musicians, despite both industries being highly lucrative.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Groovymono Show, the Shake Body crooner compared earnings in music and football, arguing that professional footballers often have more consistent financial security regardless of fame level.

According to him, a player does not necessarily need to be a star or a regular starter to earn a steady salary, unlike music, where income is often tied to popularity and current relevance.

“Football money is greater than music. The difference between music money and football money is that you don’t even have to be a big star or a starter in football to make money,” he said.

Skales added that music income is often unpredictable and seasonal, noting that an artist can be highly successful at one point and struggle the next if relevance fades.

“But music money is seasonal. An artist can be up today and down tomorrow… Music is also crazy money but sports money is different,” he explained.

Opinion: Stability vs Stardom in Two Lucrative Worlds

Skales’ perspective highlights a key difference between two industries often compared for their wealth potential: structure versus volatility.

Football operates on contracts, salaries, and sometimes bonuses, meaning even less prominent players can enjoy financial stability over a fixed period. Music, on the other hand, is largely driven by streams, bookings, endorsements, and public demand—factors that can rise and fall quickly with trends.

This doesn’t necessarily mean musicians earn less overall; top artists can make enormous sums in short periods. However, the unpredictability Skales describes is real, especially for artists who are not consistently at the top of the charts.

His comments also reflect a broader truth about creative industries: talent alone is not enough to guarantee stability. Longevity, branding, and business strategy often determine whether success is sustained or temporary.

In the end, both football and music offer wealth—but Skales’ argument reminds us that one may offer structure, while the other demands constant reinvention.
