Finidi George Shifts Focus as Rivers United Chase Late NPFL Title Push
Rivers United FC technical adviser Finidi George has turned attention to the final day of the Nigeria Premier Football League season as his side continue their push for the title.
The Pride of Rivers recently secured a 2–0 victory over non-league side G12 FC in the Round of 64 of the President Federation Cup, a result Finidi described as a solid performance from his players.
However, focus has now shifted to Sunday’s crucial league clash against Katsina United FC in Port Harcourt, a match that could decide their title hopes.
Rivers United currently trail league leaders Rangers International FC by one point and must secure a win while hoping Rangers drop points against Ikorodu City FC to clinch their second league title in history.
Speaking after the cup victory, Finidi emphasized his focus on the league decider.
“The game is gone and my focus is on the league match against Katsina United,” he said.
Opinion
This is the kind of season finale that defines clubs and managers. Rivers United have done well to stay in the title race, but now they are in a position where their fate is no longer fully in their hands.
Finidi George’s approach shows experience — keeping players focused after a cup win and immediately shifting attention to the league is crucial at this stage of the season. However, even with a strong performance, they still need help from another fixture.
That uncertainty is what makes title races so intense: consistency gets you to the top, but fine margins often decide who finishes there.
