Ahmed Musa Fires Kano Pillars Past Barau FC as Rivers United Maintain NPFL Lead

Former Ahmed Musa proved decisive for Kano Pillars F.C. as his lone strike secured a 1–0 victory over local rivals Barau FC in a Nigeria Premier Football League clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.

Musa scored the only goal of the encounter three minutes before the hour mark, ensuring the Sai Masu Gida claimed all three points in the heated derby.

The victory lifted Kano Pillars to 15th position with 35 points from 29 matches, offering a much-needed boost in their quest to climb further up the league table.

Elsewhere, Finidi George’s Rivers United F.C. maintained their grip on the top spot after a convincing 3–1 win over Bendel Insurance F.C. at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

After a goalless first half, Rivers United stepped up the tempo in the second half, with goals from Chijioke Mbaoma, Wisdom Samuel and Samson Obi sealing the win. The former champions now sit top of the table with 52 points from 27 matches.

In Enugu, Rangers International F.C. delivered a dominant performance to defeat Remo Stars F.C. 4–1. Kenneth Igboke scored twice for the Flying Antelopes, while Chidozie Iwundu and Wisdom Ebirim also found the net. Remo Stars pulled one back through Franck Kingue.

Opinion: Musa Still Showing His Value in Nigerian Football

Ahmed Musa’s decisive goal is another reminder that experience still plays a vital role in the Nigerian league. While many fans often focus on younger talents or players abroad, Musa continues to prove that veteran leadership can make a difference in crucial matches.

For Kano Pillars, his presence brings more than goals—it adds confidence, leadership, and the kind of composure needed in high-pressure games. If the team hopes to climb further up the table, Musa’s contributions will remain essential.

Meanwhile, Rivers United’s steady form under Finidi George shows that the title race may increasingly revolve around their consistency. With several matches still to play, the NPFL season remains unpredictable—but performances like Musa’s ensure the league continues to deliver exciting moments. ⚽
