Soso Chisom Says Onscreen Kissing Is Strictly Professional, Not for Pleasure
Soso Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has stated that kissing scenes in Nollywood should be treated strictly as professional acting and not something meant for personal enjoyment.
The actress made this known during an interview with TVC, while reacting to recent comments from some actors who complained about never experiencing “good kisses” during film productions.
Soso explained that she approaches romantic scenes with strict boundaries, adding that she does not use her tongue during onscreen kisses and ensures a controlled, professional execution of such scenes.
“I don’t kiss with my tongue. My teeth are always closed during kissing scenes so it is just the lips. But because it is an act, we have to make it believable,” she said.
She further emphasized that acting is a job and not a romantic experience, noting that actors should not expect real-life pleasure from movie roles.
“You are not supposed to get a good kiss, it is a job,” she added.
Her comments come shortly after fellow actors, including Saga Adeolu, publicly stated that onscreen kisses in Nollywood are often mechanical and not enjoyable.
Opinion
Soso Chisom’s perspective highlights an important but often overlooked aspect of filmmaking: boundaries in performance. In professional acting, especially in intimate scenes, clarity, consent, and discipline are essential to maintaining comfort between co-stars.
Her statement also reflects the reality that what viewers see on screen is carefully staged rather than spontaneous emotion. This separation between performance and personal feeling is what allows actors to maintain professionalism in sensitive scenes.
At the same time, the ongoing discussion shows that Nollywood is gradually becoming more open about behind-the-scenes experiences, especially as actors begin to speak more freely about industry practices.
