Man United Block Rashford Clause for Man City and Liverpool as Forward Weighs Future

Man United Block Rashford Clause for Man City and Liverpool as Forward Weighs Future

Manchester United have reportedly made it clear that Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool will not be able to activate Marcus Rashford’s £40 million release clause.

The England forward is expected to return to Old Trafford after his loan spell at Barcelona ended with the LaLiga giants deciding against triggering the €30 million clause required to make his move permanent.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Rashford’s situation, revealing that the decision over the player’s future will now depend on the forward and Manchester United.

“Marcus Rashford £40m release clause is not valid for Man City and Liverpool, the final decision stands with the player,” Romano wrote on X.

“He’s gonna assess all options, Man United too, including staying under Michael Carrick.”

Rashford’s future has become one of the major talking points surrounding Manchester United, with questions remaining over whether he still has a long-term role at the club or whether both parties would benefit from a fresh start.

The 27-year-old is currently focused on international duty with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, but his club situation is expected to attract further attention once the tournament ends.

For United, keeping Rashford could provide continuity and experience, while the forward will have to decide whether rebuilding his career at Old Trafford is the right move or if a new challenge awaits.

The coming weeks could prove crucial in determining the next chapter of one of the club’s most recognisable academy graduates.
