NPFL Orders Clubs to Attend Mandatory Commercial, Media Workshop Ahead of New Season
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a compulsory Commercial, Marketing and Media Workshop for all participating clubs as preparations intensify for the 2026/2027 season.
In a statement issued to all clubs, the league management directed every team to send two officials to the three-day programme, which is scheduled to take place in Enugu from Monday, July 27, to Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
According to the NPFL, the workshop is designed to strengthen clubs' commercial operations, improve marketing strategies, enhance branding, and promote more effective media engagement ahead of the new campaign.
The initiative forms part of the league's broader efforts to professionalise club administration and increase the commercial appeal of Nigerian top-flight football.
With the 2026/2027 NPFL season set to kick off next month, the workshop is expected to equip club officials with practical knowledge on revenue generation, fan engagement, sponsorship opportunities, and modern communication practices.
League organisers believe that improving off-the-pitch operations is just as important as raising standards on the field, as clubs continue to seek greater visibility and financial sustainability.
Opinion
The NPFL's decision to make the workshop mandatory is a positive step toward building a more commercially viable league. Modern football extends far beyond matchdays, with strong branding, effective media relations, and sustainable marketing playing vital roles in attracting sponsors, investors, and supporters.
If clubs apply the lessons from the workshop effectively, the league could witness improved fan engagement, stronger corporate partnerships, and a more professional image. Ultimately, developing the business side of Nigerian football is essential if the NPFL is to compete with the continent's leading domestic leagues and create long-term financial stability for its clubs.
