Shooting Stars Sign Midfielder Olakunle Akala from Kano Pillars

Shooting Stars have completed the signing of midfielder Olakunle Akala from Kano Pillars, according to TalkTalk Nigeria.

Akala has signed a one-year contract with the Oluyole Warriors as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The midfielder was a key member of Kano Pillars' squad during the previous campaign before deciding to seek a new challenge.

Confirming his departure, Akala shared an emotional farewell message on social media, expressing gratitude to everyone associated with the four-time NPFL champions.

“Special thanks to our team leaders, coaches, teammates and our amazing supporters for the support you have given me throughout this great organization. It’s really a pride for me to wear Kano Pillars shirt.

“Thank you for making me feel like home from the first day I came. I will never forget the beautiful memories I had and the memories I built here.

“As I start a new chapter in my football life, I walk with a heart full of gratitude and respect to all related to Kano Pillars.”

Akala's arrival is expected to add experience and stability to Shooting Stars' midfield as the Ibadan-based club aims to improve on its performances in the upcoming NPFL campaign.

Opinion

This appears to be a smart acquisition for Shooting Stars. Akala has already proven himself in the NPFL and brings valuable top-flight experience without requiring a lengthy adaptation period. For Kano Pillars, replacing a dependable midfielder will be an important task, while Shooting Stars will hope Akala's work rate and consistency strengthen their midfield throughout the season.
