Toyin Abraham Breaks Silence on Funke Akindele Feud: ‘I Don’t Like Talking About My Past’

Toyin Abraham Breaks Silence on Funke Akindele Feud: ‘I Don’t Like Talking About My Past’

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has finally addressed the controversy surrounding her widely publicised fallout with colleague **Funke Akindele>, making it clear that she has no interest in revisiting the issue.

Speaking during The Morayo Afolabi Show, Toyin said she has reached a stage in her life where public criticism no longer affects her.

“There is nothing anyone would say that will get to me anymore. If I respond to you, it’s because I am just having fun with you. I want to play with you.”

When asked about her relationship with Funke Akindele, the actress declined to go into details.

“I don’t want to talk about it because I don’t like talking about my past.”

Toyin also expressed her displeasure with constant comparisons between her and other actresses, saying she simply wants to be recognised for who she is.

“I don’t like it when they pitch me with anyone. I just want to be me, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi.”

The comments come months after a viral moment at Iyabo Ojo's movie premiere, where Funke Akindele appeared to ignore Toyin's greeting. The incident sparked widespread reactions online and fuelled speculation about renewed tension between the two movie stars.

Following the incident, Toyin publicly declared she would never greet Funke again, while Funke further stirred conversations after liking a social media post referencing Toyin's statement.

Several industry figures, including Iyabo Ojo, Fausat Balogun, and Taiwo Hassan, later appealed for peace between the actresses.

Opinion

Toyin Abraham's decision to avoid discussing the feud may be her clearest signal yet that she wants to move beyond the controversy. In an industry where rivalries often generate headlines, choosing not to revisit old disagreements can help shift attention back to creative work rather than personal disputes.

The constant tendency to compare successful entertainers can also create unnecessary divisions. Healthy competition can inspire excellence, but it doesn't always have to translate into personal conflict. Ultimately, audiences are often better served when the conversation centres on performances, storytelling and achievements rather than lingering feuds.
