Wizkid Confirmed to Open Detty December Fest 2026: Lagos's 13-Night Season Gets Its Headliner, Four Months Early

"Detty December" used to sneak up on Lagos — a season built out of word of mouth, last-minute flight bookings and whichever artist happened to announce a show first. That is no longer how it works.

BellaNaija reported this week that Wizkid will headline the opening night of "Detty December Fest," a new festival running December 18-30, 2026, in Lagos. Wizkid performs on Day 1, Friday, December 18.

The announcement lands four months before a single ticket-holder sets foot in the venue — unusually early for a season Nigeria has always treated as a December surprise rather than an August calendar entry.

The Night One Headliner

Wizkid opening the festival is the kind of booking that sets the tone for everything after it. Detty December runs on homecoming energy — the diaspora flying in, the local scene meeting them at the airport gates — and few names carry that opening-night weight the way his does.
