The mechanism

A livestream audience compounds. Getting from a thousand viewers to a hundred thousand is not a hundred times more work, it is a threshold problem: the platform's recommendation system needs a reason to show you to people who are not already following you.

What an endorsement does. It supplies that reason in one move. An established name appearing on a stream imports their audience for an evening, and the algorithm treats the resulting numbers as evidence you are worth surfacing.

Why that is a fragile way to run an industry

Because it means the gatekeeping function sits with a small number of individuals who have no obligation to use it, no transparency about how they choose, and no accountability when they do not. Talent that never gets pointed at simply does not surface.

Nigeria's creator economy has no A and R department. It has a handful of famous people and whoever happens to be in their phone.

Olamide's record here is not accidental

He has done this repeatedly across more than a decade, with musicians as well as creators, and a meaningful share of the current generation can point at a moment where he made an introduction or shared something. That is a genuine contribution and it is also an enormous amount of informal power concentrated in one person's judgement.

The thing that would make it less fragile

Paid development structures: labels, agencies and platforms that scout and invest rather than waiting for organic proof. They exist in Nigeria in small numbers and are outweighed by the informal route.

Peller got the endorsement. The useful question is how many equally capable people are still waiting for one, and what happens to them if it never comes.
