“Loyalty, Not Clout”: Yomi Fabiyi Clears the Air on His Support for BBNaija Winner Imisi
Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi has spoken out on his relationship with Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisi, clarifying that his support for her was rooted in loyalty and mentorship — not fame or financial gain.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi revealed that his bond with Imisi goes way back — long before her rise to stardom on reality TV — and that he has always seen her as a daughter figure in the industry.
“I am an adult and like a father to her in the film industry. She was the only housemate I knew personally. Everything I do, she supports.
For instance, when I had my housewarming, she stayed throughout and made sure the event went well. Supporting her during the show was simply the right thing to do,” Fabiyi explained.
The actor also disclosed that Imisi’s entertainment career started under his mentorship at his film academy, and that their connection has always been grounded in mutual respect and support.
“Imisi was one of my students at my film academy, and beyond that, she has always been supportive of me and my son. We used to live in the same area in Ikorodu, and she’s been helpful long before the fame,” he added.
When asked if he ever worries about being taken for granted, especially given past experiences with ungrateful protégés, Fabiyi shrugged off such fears, saying:
“I don’t think about things like that. In today’s social media world, some people distance themselves from those who helped them just to appear self-made. But no matter the level of ingratitude, I don’t let it get to me. I’ll keep doing what’s right.”
💭 Opinion: Real Mentorship Still Matters in the Age of Clout
In a world where fame often breeds entitlement and relationships can feel transactional, Yomi Fabiyi’s words carry quiet wisdom. His story with Imisi highlights something rare in today’s entertainment industry — genuine mentorship built on respect, not reward.
It’s easy to assume every public show of support hides an ulterior motive, but Fabiyi reminds us that sometimes, loyalty is simply loyalty. His approach — staying kind, even after facing betrayal — is a subtle lesson that doing good should never depend on who’s watching.
In an age obsessed with “who helped who,” it’s refreshing to see that some bonds in Nollywood still have roots deeper than social media validation.
At the end of the day, maybe Fabiyi’s greatest message isn’t about Imisi’s win — it’s about grace, gratitude, and the power of doing good without expecting applause. 👏
