Super Eagles Soar in FIFA Ranking, Break into Africa’s Top Five After Back-to-Back Wins
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are flying high again — and this time, the numbers back it up. According to the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Friday, the three-time African champions moved up four places, climbing from 45th to 41st position globally.
The rise comes on the back of two impressive victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers — a 2–1 win over Lesotho and a 4–0 demolition of Benin Republic, both of which seem to have reignited confidence among fans and players alike.
On the African continent, the Super Eagles have now broken into the top five, ranking behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
Globally, Spain still holds the top spot, followed by Argentina, while France, England, and Portugal complete the world’s top five footballing nations.
⚽ Opinion: A Promising Climb — But Consistency Is Key
For Nigerian football fans, this ranking feels like a breath of fresh air — a sign that the Super Eagles are gradually regaining their wings after months of uncertainty, inconsistent performances, and managerial transitions.
The team’s recent form under Eric Chelle has shown flashes of brilliance and hunger, especially with the attacking flair led by Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman. But while the climb to 41st is commendable, it should serve as motivation rather than celebration.
Nigeria’s football history is rich, yet our biggest challenge has always been sustaining momentum. A few victories and ranking jumps are good — but what the Super Eagles truly need is a culture of dominance and consistency, not just moments of brilliance.
If the current form continues, Nigeria could soon challenge the top three teams in Africa — and perhaps, reclaim its rightful place among the world’s elite football nations. For now, though, this rise is a reassuring reminder that when the Eagles believe, they truly soar.
