Mr Eazi Declares Interest in Presidency, Says Africa Needs Forward-Thinking Leaders
Afrobeats star and entrepreneur, Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has revealed his ambition to run for the presidency of an African country in the near future.
The ‘Skin Tight’ crooner made this known in a video shared via Snapchat, saying he has been nurturing the idea for some time.
“I have been thinking about it. I think it’s time to share it with you guys,” he said.
“Some of you might be from some country, specifically in Africa, and you are looking for a president — a president who is not looking for money and power but forward-thinking, young, active, and can move your country better.
So, I’m officially putting myself forward for the presidency.”
Mr Eazi, who recently tied the knot with Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has long been recognized for his entrepreneurial mindset and creative innovation within the African entertainment industry.
Although Nigerian by birth, the singer enjoys deep cultural and emotional ties with Ghana, where he studied and launched his career. He also credits the West African nation for inspiring his unique genre, Banku Music, which blends Ghanaian highlife rhythms with Nigerian pop.
Mr Eazi’s declaration adds his name to the growing list of Nigerian entertainers considering political aspirations.
In April 2025, actress Eniola Badmus hinted at her dream of becoming a senator, while former lawmaker Ben Bruce once predicted that Davido could become the future Governor of Osun State.
Opinion: Mr Eazi’s Political Ambition — A Dream Worth Watching or Just Another Showbiz Buzz?
Mr Eazi’s presidential ambition might sound surprising to some, but it shouldn’t. The music star has always displayed the discipline and business savvy that many in politics lack. Beyond music, he’s built a multi-million-dollar empire through emPawa Africa, empowering young artists across the continent — a true mark of leadership.
But the question is: can creativity and compassion translate into governance?
Africa’s political space has long been dominated by the old guard — men whose dreams for the continent have grown dim with age and power. If individuals like Mr Eazi, with youthful energy and global vision, bring their innovation into governance, perhaps there’s a chance for something new.
However, political leadership goes beyond ambition; it demands vision, resilience, and a willingness to serve rather than be served. Whether Mr Eazi truly means to trade his microphone for a manifesto remains to be seen.
Still, one thing is clear — Africa desperately needs leaders who think differently, dream boldly, and act with integrity. And if Eazi’s words are genuine, then maybe, just maybe, a “Banku-style” revolution in politics isn’t such a bad idea after all.
