Nigerian Stars Storm Grammy Consideration List as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr Lead Submissions for 2026 Awards 🎶🇳🇬
The race toward the 2026 Grammy Awards has officially begun — and once again, Nigerian artists are making waves on the global stage.
According to The Grammy Guru, a platform that tracks Grammy submissions worldwide, several top Nigerian musicians have submitted their works for consideration in multiple categories — proving that Afrobeats continues to command international attention.
Wizkid, often regarded as one of Afrobeats’ global pioneers, leads the charge with several impressive entries. His album “Morayo” is being considered for both Album of the Year and Best Global Album, while his soulful record “Piece of My Heart” has been submitted for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best African Music Performance.
In addition, Wizkid’s creative eye shines through his self-directed music video for “Kese (Dance)”, submitted for Best Music Video. His collaboration with Olamide and Darkoo on “Billionaires Club” is also up for Best African Music Performance.
Not to be left out, Burna Boy — who already boasts a Grammy win — continues his global stride with “No Sign of Weakness” competing in the Album of the Year and Best Global Album categories. His single “Love” and the cross-cultural collaboration “Kampé III” with French star Joé Dwèt Filé also join the Grammy race.
Ayra Starr, one of Nigeria’s brightest young stars, adds a refreshing feminine energy to the lineup. Her hit “Hot Body” is submitted for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while her duet with Wizkid, “Gimme Dat”, competes in the Best African Music Performance and Best Music Video categories.
The Recording Academy will now begin the rigorous process of voting to determine official nominees, which will be announced in November 2025.
Adding to the excitement, Davido recently joined the Recording Academy as a voting member — a major step that highlights the growing influence of Nigerian artists not only as performers but also as industry stakeholders shaping global music culture.
Opinion: Nigeria’s Global Sound Has Become Unstoppable
It’s inspiring — and honestly, goosebump-worthy — to see how far Nigerian music has come. From the days when Fela Kuti’s sound was dismissed as “too local” to today, where artists like Wizkid and Burna Boy headline global festivals and dominate Grammy ballots, it’s clear that Africa’s heartbeat is now the world’s rhythm.
These submissions aren’t just about awards; they’re about recognition. They symbolize years of innovation, sweat, and the bold redefinition of what it means to make “world music.”
Whether or not Nigeria bags multiple Grammys in 2026, one truth stands tall — Afrobeats isn’t just a genre anymore; it’s a global movement.
And with each beat, each verse, and each nomination, Nigerian artists are proving that the world can’t stop dancing to Africa’s sound. 💫🎵
