Carragher Tips Arsenal as Premier League’s Best — But Can Arteta’s Men Prove It This Time?

Carragher Tips Arsenal as Premier League’s Best — But Can Arteta’s Men Prove It This Time?

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has thrown his weight behind Arsenal, boldly naming Mikel Arteta’s side as the best team in the Premier League this season.

Speaking after Manchester City’s 3-0 demolition of Liverpool on Sunday, Carragher admitted that while Pep Guardiola’s men are closing in on Arsenal, the Gunners remain, in his words, “the best team I’ve seen this season, no doubt.”

City’s win moved them into second place, just four points behind Arsenal, who have maintained their spot at the top despite recent jitters. Yet, Carragher believes this season might test Arsenal’s character more than ever, especially with Manchester City breathing down their necks.

“Twice in the last three years, they’ve come from behind and caught Arsenal,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “Liverpool are the champions but City took them to the cleaners. Arsenal might be getting a few flashbacks to the last couple of times they had a chance at a title.”

The Pressure Game: Arsenal’s Defining Moment

Carragher’s comments strike at the heart of what has haunted Arsenal fans for years — the fear of slipping when it matters most. The Gunners have played some of the most beautiful football in England this season, with their precision, pressing, and young energy lighting up the league.

But beauty alone doesn’t win titles — consistency does. And that’s where Manchester City, with their cold, calculated efficiency, have always held the upper hand.

Still, there’s a growing sense that this Arsenal side is different. Arteta’s men have shown grit, improved depth, and a winning mentality that wasn’t there two seasons ago. Their ability to bounce back after setbacks will determine if Carragher’s statement becomes prophecy — or another flattering reminder of Arsenal’s “almost” seasons.

As the league heads into the international break, Arsenal sit four points clear of City. But with Pep Guardiola’s men gaining momentum, one question lingers: Can the Gunners finally finish what they started?
