Ned Nwoko Breaks Silence: “I Never Went After Regina Daniels”
The Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has reacted to the public controversy surrounding his marriage to popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisting that he never pursued her for marriage.
In a statement released through his Communication and Technical Action Team, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the lawmaker addressed the ongoing debate about his marriage, which has faced renewed scrutiny amid allegations of domestic violence.
Nwoko’s reaction comes two weeks after Regina Daniels publicly accused him of domestic abuse and announced that she was no longer interested in the marriage. In response, the Senator accused her of substance abuse and said she needed to attend a rehabilitation program.
The exchange sparked outrage across social media, with many Nigerians — including celebrities — criticizing Nwoko for allegedly marrying Regina when she was still a minor and calling for his resignation from the Senate.
However, Nwoko has denied those claims, saying Regina was 19 years old when they got married six years ago. He further alleged that it was Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, who introduced and brought her daughter to him for marriage.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she married at 19 and not 17,” Nwoko said.
“The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage. There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her.”
Opinion: Beyond the Headlines — The Bigger Lesson in the Ned and Regina Saga
While Senator Ned Nwoko’s defense aims to set the record straight, the controversy surrounding his marriage to Regina Daniels raises deeper social questions — about age, consent, and the power dynamics in relationships.
Whether Regina married at 17 or 19, the story highlights how easily fame, wealth, and influence can blur societal lines between personal choice and persuasion. In a society where younger women often marry powerful older men, many are left wondering: At what point does consent become compromise?
Nwoko’s claim that Regina’s mother “brought her to him” also opens a broader conversation about parental roles and societal expectations — especially in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where success and security are often weighed against traditional values.
Beyond the noise of accusations and counter-accusations, one truth stands out: marriages, no matter how glamorous, need mutual respect, emotional maturity, and balance to thrive. When these elements are missing, public opinion becomes a courtroom — and love stories turn into cautionary tales.
As Nigerians continue to debate the Ned and Regina saga, perhaps the real question isn’t just who is right or wrong, but what this episode teaches about the evolving meaning of love, age, and agency in modern society.
