Mohbad’s Widow Moves to Protect Late Singer’s Estate from Unauthorized Claims

Mohbad’s Widow Moves to Protect Late Singer’s Estate from Unauthorized Claims

Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, the widow of late Afrobeats star Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba), has taken legal steps to safeguard her late husband’s estate and prevent unauthorized parties from making claims.

Aloba filed a formal notice at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, urging the Probate Registry to reject any application for Letters of Administration not submitted by the lawful beneficiaries. The notice, submitted through her law firm Salawu, Akingbolu & Co., confirms that Forms 5 and 6 have been duly filed, legally barring the issuance of estate administration to any party other than those recognized by law.

The correspondence, signed by I. P. Awo, Esq., highlights that Aloba is the legal wife of the deceased and mother of his only surviving child, Master Liam Aloba. Public announcements have also been placed in two national newspapers warning against fraudulent attempts to claim the estate.

Her legal team emphasized that the notice is binding and remains in court records until the estate is lawfully administered, noting:
“No irregular attempt to bypass the legal process will be entertained, especially given that the deceased’s lawful wife and son are still alive.”

This move comes amid ongoing public interest and controversies surrounding Mohbad’s estate, reflecting the complex nature of celebrity inheritance disputes in Nigeria.

Opinion: Protecting Legitimacy in Celebrity Estates

Aloba’s proactive legal action highlights the importance of formal processes in estate management, especially when public figures are involved. In a landscape where rumors, social media claims, and opportunistic parties often cloud the truth, taking clear legal steps ensures the rights of lawful beneficiaries are protected.

By acting decisively, Mohbad’s widow not only preserves her family’s interests but also sets an example for how estates of public figures should be handled responsibly. This is particularly crucial in Nigeria, where celebrity estates frequently become hotbeds for disputes and misinformation.

Ultimately, this case underscores a broader lesson: legal clarity and transparency are the best safeguards against fraud and family conflict, no matter how public the deceased was.
