Enzo Fernández Names Five Premier League Title Contenders, Says Race Is Wide Open
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández believes the Premier League title race is far from a two-horse race, insisting that at least five teams are capable of challenging Arsenal this season.
The Argentine star shared his thoughts in an interview with GiveMeSport, stressing that the competition is much tighter than the current league table suggests.
As things stand, Arsenal remain at the summit with a five-point lead after losing just once in their opening 13 matches. Manchester City sit second, while Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Brighton complete the top five.
Surprisingly, Fernández also included Liverpool in the title conversation despite the Reds being eighth on the table. According to him, form can change quickly — and the champions should never be written off.
“Of course we are [title contenders],” Fernández said.
“This season, there are many contenders: Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United. All the teams are battling towards the top. There are some very strong Premier League sides.”
Opinion: Is Fernández Right — Or Overly Optimistic?
Enzo Fernández’s confidence is refreshing, but it also raises an interesting question: Are five teams truly capable of chasing Arsenal down?
On paper, the Premier League is arguably the most unpredictable league in the world. A surprise run from the likes of Aston Villa or Brighton cannot be ruled out, while teams like Liverpool and Manchester United — despite inconsistent starts — have the squad depth and pedigree to turn their seasons around.
But there’s also the reality that Arsenal and Manchester City look miles ahead in terms of consistency, squad balance, and overall performance. Chelsea, still rebuilding under fresh leadership, may need more time before being considered genuine contenders. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s current position makes the idea of a title charge feel more hopeful than realistic.
Still, Fernández’s comments underline a crucial truth: the Premier League title race is never over in December.
All it takes is a few slip-ups, a streak of form, or a surprise January signing, and the entire landscape can shift.
For now, Arsenal hold the advantage — but if the Premier League has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected.
