Queen Mercy Atang Gives Thanks After Escaping Living Room Ceiling Collapse

Former Big Brother Naija star Queen Mercy Atang has expressed heartfelt gratitude after she and her family narrowly escaped what could have been a tragic incident involving the collapse of her living room POP ceiling.

Sharing a video of the aftermath on social media, Queen revealed that her younger sister and nanny were in the living room sewing when the ceiling suddenly gave way, forcing them to run for safety.

The reality TV star disclosed that she had returned home around 4 a.m. after working through the night on preparations for a Guinness World Record project involving her friend. Although her sister and nanny were usually in the habit of sewing through the night and sleeping in the sitting room, they were still awake when the ceiling fell—a detail Queen believes saved their lives.

“I thank God they didn’t sleep there today,” she wrote, recounting how her fear quickly turned into relief after confirming that her loved ones were unharmed.

Queen also revealed that this was not the first incident in her home, noting that her garage POP ceiling had collapsed just a few weeks earlier. Amid the emotional shock, she admitted she is currently juggling the responsibility of relocating her family to a safer space while coordinating a major Guinness World Record project set to begin later this week.

“Dear Lord, I am grateful. Thank You for Your love and Your protection,” she concluded.

Opinion: A Wake-Up Call on Safety and Gratitude

Queen Mercy Atang’s experience is both frightening and deeply instructive. While her message is filled with gratitude, it also highlights a silent but serious issue—building safety and maintenance. Incidents like POP ceiling collapses are becoming increasingly common, often due to poor materials, substandard workmanship, or lack of regular inspections.

Beyond the structural concerns, her story is a reminder of how quickly life can change. Small decisions—like staying awake a little longer or choosing not to sleep in a particular spot—can sometimes make the difference between life and tragedy.

In moments like this, gratitude feels not just emotional but necessary. Queen’s response resonates with many Nigerians who understand that survival itself is often a blessing. Her story encourages homeowners to take safety seriously, while also reminding everyone to pause, reflect, and give thanks for protection that can’t always be explained.
