Amorim Casts Doubt Over Maguire, Casemiro’s Manchester United Future
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted that the futures of Harry Maguire and Casemiro at Old Trafford remain uncertain beyond next summer.
Both players are currently approaching the final months of their contracts, meaning they could legally begin talks with foreign clubs and sign pre-contract agreements from January, ahead of a potential free transfer in the summer.
Speaking to journalists, Amorim revealed that no final decision has been taken, stressing that the club’s direction next season — particularly European qualification — will play a major role in determining what happens next.
“No, there is no decision,” Amorim said.
“We have a lot to do. We need to understand what is going to happen in the next season, because we need to understand if there is European games.“I’m really happy with them, but I don’t know what is going to happen, so we’ll see what is going to happen until the end of the season, what position we will be, and then we’ll see.”
Maguire, who has fought his way back into the team after a difficult period, and Casemiro, a serial winner whose influence has dipped this season, remain key figures in the dressing room despite their uncertain status.
Opinion: Amorim’s comments reflect the harsh reality of modern football — loyalty and experience often take a back seat to long-term planning. While Maguire has shown resilience and professionalism, and Casemiro brings leadership and a winning mentality, Manchester United appear to be standing at a crossroads. European qualification could offer both players a lifeline, but failure to secure it may accelerate a rebuild focused on younger legs and lower wages. For now, the message is clear: performances between now and the end of the season will speak louder than past achievements.
