Laide Bakare Criticizes Social Media Conduct Following Allwell Ademola’s Death

Actress Laide Bakare has voiced her disappointment over how some fans and Nollywood colleagues have responded on social media following the passing of actress and filmmaker Allwell Ademola.

In an emotional Instagram post, Bakare expressed concern that many people seem more focused on creating online content than showing respect for the late actress. She noted with dismay that some of Allwell’s close friends were active on entertainment platforms, making videos and accepting gifts from followers shortly after the news of her death.

“The way fans and colleagues are creating contents with the passing of our dear sister is really sad 😔,” Bakare wrote. “Anyway, God is watching everyone. Rest well Allwell. Still in shock, some of her very close pals even still opened TikTok yesterday, busy playing games and collecting gifts 🎁! Haaaaa!!! Aiye le ooo!” She added a caption urging accountability: “If you know them, Tag them, ko da o 🥲.”

Allwell Ademola passed away on Saturday, December 27, at the age of 49. She was rushed to Ancilla Hospital in Agege but later died there. Over her long career, Ademola worked in both English and Yoruba movies, earning a respected name in the Nollywood industry.

Opinion: Bakare’s message highlights a growing concern about social media etiquette and respect in times of mourning. While platforms allow people to express grief, it is disheartening when online activity overshadows genuine remembrance. For fans and colleagues alike, this serves as a reminder that honoring a late icon’s legacy goes beyond likes and viral content—it is about dignity, reflection, and respect for the life they lived.
