Harrysong Urges Tinubu to Raise Security Officers’ Pay, Ss the Job Should Be Worth Dying For
Nigerian singer Harrison Tare Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take a bold step toward ending insecurity by increasing the salaries and allowances of military and security personnel nationwide.
The Reggae Blues hitmaker made the appeal in a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, expressing concern about the poor welfare of those who risk their lives daily to protect the country.
According to Harrysong, the current earnings of officers in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and other forces remain “too small” and “shameful,” despite the daily sacrifices made in combating kidnapping, terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime.
He stressed that boosting the welfare of security operatives would not only motivate them but also improve their morale in tackling crime more fearlessly and effectively.
He wrote:
“TO MR PRESIDENT. IF YOU REALLY, TRULY WANNA END INSECURITY IN NIGERIA 🇳🇬? start by increasing the salary and allowances of the armed forces… this job should be worth dying for. Increase their salaries ooooooo pls and pls.”
Opinion: When Those Who Protect Us Can’t Afford to Live
Harrysong’s message may be emotional, but the truth behind it is hard to ignore.
Many Nigerians are worried about insecurity — from communities facing bandits to cities battling robberies and kidnappings. While we demand bravery from our security forces, how often do we ask if they are equipped or motivated enough to fight this battle?
These men and women wear the uniform with pride, yet behind the scenes, many struggle with poor pay, inadequate housing, and limited benefits for their families. When a person’s life is on the line every day, a wage that doesn’t reflect the sacrifice becomes more than just unfair — it becomes discouraging.
If we want a stronger, more committed defense force, we must treat them like the heroes they are.
Harrysong’s call is more than celebrity talk — it is a reality check. Security is the foundation of every thriving nation. When those who risk their lives feel valued, Nigeria will stand stronger.
It’s a conversation worth having — and a change worth making.
