Sydney Talker Opens Up About Troubled Childhood: From Family Rejection to Finding Hope
Nigerian comedian and skit maker, Sydney Egere, popularly known as Sydney Talker, recently shared the raw and emotional story of his difficult upbringing during an appearance on the Rash4Christ podcast hosted by Super Falcons striker Rasheedat Ajibade.
A Childhood Marked by Rejection and Turmoil
Sydney Talker revealed that his early years were filled with rejection and instability. He disclosed that both his parents struggled to keep him, frequently sending him back and forth as they battled their own personal issues.
He revealed the heartbreaking truth that his mother once attempted to abort him, but fate had other plans.
“My mum was taking me back to my father, my father was taking me back to my mum... my mum had me the first time and because of how she saw my dad going up and down with drugs, she tried to abort me. But someone told her I was going to come back,” he shared.
His father’s struggle with drug addiction caused tension between his parents and affected his childhood deeply.
“My dad was last born in his family and he was into drugs, so nobody really cared much about him. My mum saw my dad going back to drugs and wanted to abort me again, but my grandma said, ‘Don’t worry, bring him, I will train him.’”
Growing Up in Many Homes
Sydney Talker painted a vivid picture of his childhood — moving between relatives, from village homes to urban settings, never quite belonging until he finally settled with his aunt.
“I was a child that the family never wanted. I stayed with the rich, the poor, average, village, golden house — I did everything before finally staying with my Aunty. That’s when God started intervening in my life,” he said.

Sydney Talker’s story is one of resilience, faith, and ultimate triumph over adversity. Despite facing rejection and instability, he emerged a shining star in Nigeria’s comedy scene — inspiring many with his authenticity and humor.
