“My Mum is from Ekiti, My Dad from Lagos” — Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo Opens Up About Nigerian Roots

“My Mum is from Ekiti, My Dad from Lagos” — Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo Opens Up About Nigerian Roots

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has revealed deeper ties to his Nigerian heritage, sharing that his mother hails from Ekiti State and his father from Lagos State.

In a recent interview with Arise News during his visit to Nigeria, the 27-year-old centre-back expressed excitement about reconnecting with his roots, especially by exploring his maternal hometown in Ekiti.

“My mum is from Ekiti. Our plan is to go there and look around where my mum was raised and lived,” he said.
“My brother will know better than me — my dad is from Lagos.”

Although born in London and raised in Manchester, Tosin has never hidden his Nigerian pride. He came through the Manchester City academy, had a solid spell at Fulham, and now plays at the top level with Chelsea.

🇳🇬 Opinion: A Heartwarming Homecoming with a Bigger Message

In a world where many players with dual nationality struggle to identify with their African side, Tosin’s openness to trace his roots, connect with his heritage, and visit his family’s origin is both admirable and inspirational.

It’s not just a personal journey — it sends a message to young Nigerians at home and abroad:

No matter where you grow up, there’s always a home to come back to.

His visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also hints at deeper national interest in the player, with many Nigerian fans hopeful of seeing him in Super Eagles colors soon.
