Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo Reveals Nigerian Roots, Plans Visit to Ekiti with Family
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has proudly shared his Nigerian heritage, revealing that his father hails from Lagos State, while his mother is from Ekiti State.
The 27-year-old, who was born in London and raised in Manchester, made the revelation during a recent interview with Arise News, while also discussing his close bond with Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer.
“My mum is from Ekiti. Our plan is to go there and look around where my mum was raised and lived,” Adarabioyo said.
“My brother will know better than me, my dad is from Lagos.”
The centre-back, who joined Chelsea this summer, added that he and Palmer share a long-standing friendship, having both come through the Manchester City academy and shared similar experiences growing up in Manchester.
🇳🇬 Homecoming Spirit
In a gesture that reflects his connection to his roots, Adarabioyo recently paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu—a move that sparked excitement among Nigerian fans, many of whom are hopeful he’ll commit to the Super Eagles soon.
🔎 Opinion: A Star Bridging Two Worlds
Adarabioyo’s story is one that many Nigerians in the diaspora can relate to—a deep pride in their roots, despite building a life abroad. His openness about reconnecting with family history in Ekiti and Lagos reflects a growing trend among second-generation footballers of exploring their African heritage.
Could this connection eventually lead to a Super Eagles debut? Time will tell.
