Nollywood Under Fire: Actor Hospitalized After On-Set Injury Involving Zubby Michael

A disturbing incident on a Nollywood film set has stirred heated conversations online as actor Godwin Nnadiekwe is currently hospitalized with internal bleeding, following what he described as an unscripted and unapproved kick to the chest by fellow actor Zubby Michael.

💥 “I Wasn’t Protected!” – Godwin Nnadiekwe Cries Out

In a now-viral social media post, Godwin recounted the traumatic moment he was kicked during a scene—an action not directed by the filmmaker nor written in the script. The impact left him in pain, seeking medical care on his own, with no assistance or first aid provided on set.

“I received a kick to the chest from my colleague that wasn't part of the script or directed by the director... I did all these by myself. No assistance!” — Godwin wrote emotionally.

His management later confirmed he had been rushed to the hospital, where he's receiving treatment for internal bleeding.

🎬 What Really Happened?

The scene in question, now circulating online, shows an intense physical moment where Zubby Michael appears to forcefully kick Godwin. While the actor didn't call names directly, the video and caption left little doubt in the minds of viewers.

Zubby Michael—one of Nollywood’s most recognizable faces—has yet to issue any public statement regarding the allegation or extend concern toward his colleague.

🗣️ Opinion: This Is Bigger Than One Actor—It’s About the Industry’s Negligence

This isn’t just about a kick. It’s about the dangerous reality of working on Nigerian film sets, where:

  • There is no insurance coverage

  • No medical standby or trained set safety personnel

  • No enforceable standards for stunt coordination or actor welfare

Nollywood has grown into a global phenomenon, but our safety culture remains dangerously outdated. If stars like Godwin can suffer such trauma without basic aid, what happens to crew members and extras with even less visibility?

📣 Godwin’s Call to Action

The actor made an emotional appeal to his peers and the industry at large:

“When we're working without insurance policies or readily available first aid, unexpected physical actions like this—even if accidental—can have real consequences. What if something more serious had happened?”

He's right. And it shouldn’t take someone collapsing on set for Nollywood to act.

🔚 Final Take: Safety Must Be More Than a Script Note

Filmmaking involves risks. But those risks should be managed—not ignored. Godwin Nnadiekwe’s painful experience must serve as a turning point. We need:

  • Enforceable safety protocols

  • Insurance policies for cast and crew

  • Trained stunt coordinators

  • And above all, respect for professionalism on set

🎭 Nollywood, it’s time to grow up.

What’s your take? Should actors who break protocol face suspension or sanctions?
