“Release Verydarkman in 24 Hours” — Tiktoker Peller Calls Out EFCC Over Arrest

“Release Verydarkman in 24 Hours” — Tiktoker Peller Calls Out EFCC Over Arrest

Nigerian TikTok personality, Peller, has joined the growing list of public figures demanding the release of outspoken social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a strongly worded social media post, Peller gave the EFCC a 24-hour ultimatum to release the activist, warning that VDM’s detention has ripple effects far beyond social media — particularly on those who depend on him for support and livelihood.

“Verydarkman is helping many people,” Peller said. “Because of his arrest, many people may go hungry.”

💬 Opinion: Is the EFCC Sending the Wrong Message to Nigerian Youths?

The growing outcry over Verydarkman's arrest isn't just about one man — it's a reflection of a larger frustration among young Nigerians about freedom of speech, selective justice, and how power is wielded in the country.

While the EFCC claims there are petitions against VDM, the lack of transparency and delay in formally charging him only fuels suspicion that this may be more about silencing criticism than enforcing the law.

Peller's bold call echoes what many Nigerians — especially the youth — are thinking: Is activism now a crime? Should influencers who dare to speak truth to power be targeted, while others with wealth and political connections walk freely?

This is not just a test of justice, but a test of Nigeria’s democracy. If people like Verydarkman can be detained without due process, then no voice is truly safe.

🗣️ What do you think? Should influencers use their platforms for activism, or is this going too far?
