Mark Angel Challenges EFCC Over VeryDarkMan’s Arrest: “Show Us the Evidence!”

Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Mark Angel, has stirred conversation online after openly challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over their arrest of controversial online critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a bold Instagram video, Mark Angel questioned the EFCC’s claim that they had invited VeryDarkMan multiple times before resorting to arresting him. The comedian insisted that if the anti-graft agency has nothing to hide, they should present proof of the alleged invitation.

“EFCC just released a press statement saying they invited VeryDarkMan and he refused to go, that was the reason they arrested him. We want to believe that. In fact, I personally want to believe it. Show us the evidence. If he has done something, and you want to do your work, fine. But don’t fabricate stories,” Mark said.

🗣️ Opinion: In an Era of Distrust, Transparency Is Non-Negotiable

Mark Angel’s demand isn’t out of place — it reflects a growing concern among Nigerian citizens about institutional integrity and the abuse of power.

In a time when public confidence in law enforcement agencies is at an all-time low, it is not enough to simply issue press releases. Facts must be supported with receipts, especially in a high-profile case like this.

The online community echoed similar sentiments. One user wrote:

“You can’t throw someone behind bars and then start writing fiction to justify it. Proof or nothing.
Another added:
“This is why trust is dead in Nigeria.”

While some critics believe Mark Angel is chasing clout, others argue that it’s about time influencers used their platforms to speak truth to power. Whether or not you agree with VDM’s methods, his rights to due process remain intact.

🔎 The EFCC owes Nigerians clarity. Arresting a citizen without publicly verifiable cause can only widen the gap between the people and the justice system.

📢 What’s your take? Should celebrities speak out more in cases like this, or stay away from controversial issues?
