Odumodublvck Clears the Air on Misogyny Allegations: “That’s a Fake One”

Nigerian hip-hop sensation Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has responded to recent backlash over misogyny allegations stemming from a controversial lyric in his 2023 hit ‘Cast’, featuring Shallipopi.

In the track, Odumodublvck referenced women allegedly relying on men for wigs and designer handbags—a line that many interpreted as perpetuating harmful stereotypes about women. The line triggered widespread criticism across social media, with some accusing the rapper of misogyny.

But in a recent interview with The Beat FM, Lagos, the Declan Rice crooner firmly dismissed the accusations, labeling them as baseless.

“In the last year, I am the artist that has featured the most women in the game. What kind of misogynist is that? That’s a fake one,” he said.

Odumodublvck pointed out that his commitment to uplifting female artists speaks louder than the assumptions drawn from a single lyric. In an industry where female representation can often be sidelined, the rapper insists that he’s one of the few championing their inclusion.

✍🏾 Opinion Corner: Can Lyrics and Actions Coexist in Harmony?

Odumodublvck’s bold rebuttal raises a deeper question—can artists be judged solely on their lyrics when their actions reflect a different narrative?

Hip-hop has always walked a fine line between provocative expression and cultural responsibility. While fans must hold artists accountable for their words, it’s also crucial to view their overall impact—especially in how they uplift marginalized voices. In Odumodublvck’s case, his record of collaborations with female artists might just offer a more holistic picture than a single controversial verse.

This situation reminds us: music is powerful, but context is everything.

🗣️ Do you think lyrics define the artist—or is it what they do behind the mic that matters most?
